Although, we are not in those conditions, some categories are really in trouble. It is not a coincidence if most of the election promises are aimed at young people and seniors. Our beloved country doesn’t manage to achieve a good growth rate. Therefore, young people, but not only, do not find any job, and seniors struggle to make ends meet with their retirement pension.

In such an atmosphere, it is inevitable that millions of people are thinking of leaving to search some lucky islands. The world is full of opportunities. It is probably about finding your own life project in order to face an adventure with good probabilities of success.

Let’s look for the best place for young people, pensioners and families who want to face this situation living abroad.

First of all, we must say that bureaucracy abroad is easier than in Italy. But unfortunately, some documents that may be required depend on Italy, so you’ll need to wait. This happens, for example, in the United States or Great Britain, where the control of the entries into the country is higher.

Rankings, listing the places offering the best quality of life, are useless. The reality depends on our own preferences, on the reason why we want to move and maybe also on tax benefits.

Moving to Europe

It is a classic for those who are satisfied with moving a few kilometres, without going too far. The flow of people moving to London is continuous and mainly concerns young people looking for a job. We can give the excuse of going there to learn the language, but then we realise that there are many more opportunities than in Italy, and we then stay there.

The restaurant industry is the most promising sector, because it is linked to the idea that we always need an Italian abroad. There are many Italian restaurants, run by Italians, so it is easy to apply, even from Italy, to find a first job.

Before Brexit, there were no problems to go and work in London. Now it’s more difficult and finance is the most affected field.

Berlin looks more rascal because it seems to be young people’s paradise and the place where the cost of living is different from the rest of Germany. Young artists from all over Europe prefer it, for its vitality and for the possibility of playing music everywhere, earning a fee of course.

Also in Europe, but changing target, pensioners can happily move to Lisbon and to the whole Portugal in general, because of the tax exemption from retirement pensions and the possibility of not paying taxes for 10 years. The cost of living is quite low and with 1000 Euros, it is possible to live well. We should add that Portugal, despite the image of a country in crisis like Italy, is in a flourishing period, as evidenced by the 4 million Europeans pensioners that this country has hosted, in only 10 years.

One-room accommodation starts from 70,000 Euros.

Going to live in the Canary Islands is another option, still in Europe. It costs a little more but looks like paradise, to Italian pensioners. The tax system is autonomous and attractive, even though they are part of Spain. For the over 65s, many benefits exist, as well as rentals with preferential rates. The VAT is 7% and this says a lot about the prices on the island. With a minimum pension, there is no need of a tax return, while for the others the tax rate is capped at 15%.

Malta must also be taken into consideration because of its proximity to Italy and therefore where it is not even necessary to acclimatize. For pensioners, it is a good option especially for the climate and the sea but also for the attractive tax system. VAT is 18% and there are no taxes on wealth. The income tax cannot exceed 35%.

Moving out of Europe

Young people looking for a job can move to Australia, which is in a privileged situation since a long time and is looking for a skilled workforce. Even if it is far away, it is worthwhile to build a life project. The costs of living there are high but wages are also high in all sectors.

Let’s get back to pensioners, or to those who have some projects in the tourism industry, Thailand is a real paradise regarding the climate, the sea and the beaches worthy of a film. The cost of living is low, whether for the rents or the common things. The over 50s can easily apply for a visa called Non Immigrant O-A with which they are entitled to a 12-month residence permit, that is extendable as many times as desired. People over 50s must have at least 20,000 Euros deposited at the bank, a clean criminal record and no infectious diseases.

View houses for sale in Sardinia

Where to move to live better?
