I change my life, I’m going to live in Sardinia.

I change my life, I’m going to live in Sardinia.

For a reason or another, there is a moment in life when you feel the need to slow down. The stress of living in a place that does not offer much from the point of view of nature, relaxation and generally with a low quality of life uses us up over time. There are those who can afford to change place while keeping their job, and those who reach retirement age and can afford such a change.

The best destination in Italy to enjoy tranquillity and a fulfilled life is Sardinia. Splendid in many ways, it offers a lot, especially during the period before and following the tourists big rush. The sun and the white beaches are among the dreams of many Italians who spent their holidays in Sardinia.

Many people have already achieved their dream and it seems that in the future Sardinia could become a sought-after destination for many pensioners but also for professionals who like to work with a sea view and who only need to have a computer with an internet connection.

All those people wish to improve their quality of life, and Sardinia is the ideal area to erase the image of the city chaos and the dullness of urban landscapes. For now, the phenomenon mostly affects couples, old enough to retire, looking for well-being and tranquillity.

How to live in Sardinia?

Pensioners are taking advantage of a favourable status when moving from one place to another in Italy. In Sardinia, it is not easy to find a job especially because of the rarefaction of the resident population, which are about 1 million 600 thousand people. The economy is agricultural and also based on tourism part of the year. Families who settle on the island often do not need to work themselves daily and can delegate. Therefore the middle class is quite common. For young people, the possibility of settling in Sardinia is not excluded, but is mainly related to the summer period. Job offers regarding tourism are really numerous.

The desire to enjoy life in contact with a preserved nature is always behind the choice to move to Sardinia. The assets of the island are cleverly protected by the local culture which is also transmitted to the administrations. One specific measure explains why the island has not yet been seized by builders, who have spoiled the landscape elsewhere in Italy. This is the prohibition to build near the coast and the area to respect is substantial. Those who are not living in Sardinia cannot understand that, despite the need of an economic development, it is unthinkable that ruining the coastline could be the solution. For a Sardinian, it is not even an economic question but an innate respect for the land on which he has lived for millennia.

This aspect must be considered in order to live in Sardinia, respecting a proud population who has made difficult but far-sighted choices.

Not only pensioners but also managers can aspire to move to Sardinia

In Sardinia, especially in the North of the island, tourism that goes best is luxury tourism. Many owners of villas and boats have settled there. They are not only Italians but also foreigners. The search of reliable and high-level employees is very high on the island and is a valid option for those with the appropriate professional level. With only 2 or 3 months work, it is possible to live well the whole year. This is facilitated by the cost of living, among the lowest in Italy.

Those who come from big cities especially from Milan or Rome will immediately notice the difference in prices. This difference is very important also for rents. A weak point, which may be important in the decision to move definitely to Sardinia, is the distance and the difficulty of getting there. There was a time, it could have been a curb indeed, but today, the distances are only imaginary since connections both maritime ones and air links are extensive and convenient. The port of Cagliari has undergone a major modernisation to increase a larger flow of tourists on the island.

Investments on the island have been focused on site servicing. Indeed, it has been noticed that in addition to the coast, tourists were getting interested in more internal areas, to enjoy both the sea and the local culture.

If you take for example the ferry connections, the western side of Italy has various departure points, like the port of Genoa, Livorno, Piombino, Civitavecchia, Naples and Palermo.

Finally, whoever chooses this island, knows that the quality of life affects the health status and even more when speaking about Sardinia, the island with the most centenarians in the world.
